What's the role of bacteria in your life? Well, actually speaking, you are living with trillions of microorganisms which are definitely more than your own human cells by 10 to 1. Look around the World, you can see cooperation and collaboration are the principles through which the entire Universe works. It's the cooperation of different planets that made the Earthly life possible. Matter is formed when the energy is cooperative. Whatever you see outside is the result of cooperation. Nothing can be perfectly done singlehandedly. You yourself are the cooperation of trillions of cells. You are host to a variety of commensal bacteria as well, in your body which do not harm you but rely on you for survival. Bacteria plays an important role in your digestion and in making vitamins. Humans in general, make use of bacteria in multiple ways like drug production, preparation of vaccines and antibiotics. 

What bacteria are: Bacteria are unicellular microorganisms which have cell walls but lack organelles and an organized nucleus. Bacteria, also called germs, are microscopic organisms, not visible with the naked eye as they are a 1,000 times smaller than a pencil tip. It appears that bacteria are so diverse with different species in different shapes and forms. These single-celled, simple organisms are so powerful and complex that they can survive in extreme conditions. Most of the World's biomass is actually covered by Microbes. If you check a gram of soil, you can see approximately 40 million bacterial cells in it and  in a milliliter of fresh water you can see a million bacterial cells. Bacteria can be seen everywhere including the world's most hostile environments. Your body is a virtual zoo of bacteria. Everyone of you has a unique cloud of millions of your own bacteria, viruses and fungi that live on your skin and in your bodies outnumbering your own cells ten-to-one. It appears that you are more bacterial than human. Bacteria play a major role, maintaining the ecosystem. Bacteria are natural decomposers, which help the process of breaking down the dead material and recycling it. The bacterial reproduction is done through binary fission in which two identical cells formed by a spilt out of one cell. It appears that some species of bacteria can split in just 20 minutes, given the right environment.

What role they have in your life: Your body, actually speaking, moves ahead only with the cooperation and collaboration from bacteria. You are not at all alone. The bacteria in your body help degrade the food you eat, help make nutrients available to you and neutralize toxins. Your microbiota is actually the defensive mechanism, you have and they defense against infections by protecting your body from invading pathogens. The microbes have made your body their invisible kingdom and these thousands of species and trillions of inhabitants live in all parts of your body, make up the diverse human microbiome. This microbiome supports and maintains your health, protects you against germs, breaks down food to release energy, helps have your digestion,  regulates your moods and produces vitamins as well. But when the microbiome is disturbed in some fashion, it's linked to hundreds of ailments such as cancers, and autoimmune or cardiovascular diseases. Some changes in the microbiome may occur during your growth, depending on the food items you eat, the environment you live, the people and animals you interact with or the medicines you take. You have been colonized by bacteria since birth. Babies get microorganisms from their mothers during delivery. A newly born baby get more bacteria from the mother through breast feeding. As babies grow, they get the microorganisms inside enlarged through the food and from the childish habits like licking things and toys, crawling etc. Moving on, you get the company of bacteria from multiple sources, you have in life. It appears that most of the microbes inside you are not harmful and they help you maintain your metabolism. The good microbes inside you can fight against the bad ones from outside, trying to enter your body and cause a number of diseases. It's like you have got some bold fighters inside to kick the intruders out. The microbes which can cause you some diseases are known as Pathogens and the sickness they cause can be called an infection. You can kill bacteria by using the medicines, called antibiotics. If you are wounded, you are likely to get infected and this happens when the bacteria living on your skin get inside through the wound causing an infection. Pain, redness, swelling or fever can be the symptoms of an infection. When you let too many bacteria accumulate in your mouth, they can easily stick to the surface of your teeth. When some of the bacteria inside your mouth convert the food items you take into some acidic substance, it causes your tooth or gum infection. That is why you need to brush the teeth at least two times a day for 3 minutes to avoid the multiplication of bacteria
The intestinal bacteria can produce some vitamins that are good for you such as vitamins B12 and K. These vitamins are unfortunately not produced by human cells.The intestinal bacteria play a key role in terms of the digestion and the intestinal walls are protected from pathogens. 

With you all the time: They are with you 24/7. It appears that every 5 hours some 20 billion bacteria inside your mouth are reproduced and if you skip brushing they can be as many as some 100 billion bacteria within 24 hours. Multitudes of bacteria can be seen in your armpits. Contrary to popular opinion, it's not sweat that makes your armpits smelly but it's the bacteria living there as they produce smelly compounds when they encounter sweat. There are some 1000 bacterial species colonised in human guts, the dominant genera include Bacteroides, Clostridium, Fusobacterium, Eubacterium, Ruminococcus, Peptococcus, Peptostreptococcus and Bifidobacterium. Different levels of diversity in the gut bacteria may be related to obesity, diabetes 
asthma and painful diseases in the intestine. Processed food items are also not good for some of your intestinal microbiota. Over 120 species of bacteria called Lactobacillus have been identified, and more than 20 species have been detected in the vagina. A total of 42 unique kinds of bacteria are found inhabiting the skin of the penis and the circumcision can reduce their numbers. It's very good to clip or clean your fingers nails as bacteria can stay there and cause infection. Human stool naturally contains bacteria. A ten-second French kiss can spread 80 million bacteria between mouths and bacteria can be transmitted by lovemaking as well. But there is nothing to get worried about. Maintaining the habit of a healthy diet, regular exercise, personal hygiene, proper hydration and safety measures keeps the bacterial infection at bay...
