Mind can be controlled. It is can be done with practice. Your mind is the projection of the brain. And your brain works like a programable tool. It means that your mind can easily reflect your programed brain. 

What your mind is: Your mind can be described as a number of faculties working together. They are the mental agents which work together and co-create what you call your mind. These faculties include your thought, imagination and sensation. In other words, your mind is your memory and will power. Mind can produce your belief, desire, emotion, reasoning and perception. 

Why you have to control your mind: Mind control is absolutely needed because your mind, left uncontrolled does have a tendency to run amok. It appears that your mind can easily control you if you don't control it. You get engulfed by your own thoughts and emotions. And you can't keep any balance in between. 

How to control your mind: It can be done easily with regular practice. When you do something on a daily basis, you literally program your brain and know the fact that mind is the reflection of the program inside your brain. Follow the steps below. 

A) Channelize your thoughts: Your thoughts produce your emotions and beliefs. So you are supposed to check and control your negative thoughts. The first step to control negative thoughts is stop rumination. It can be done channelizing your thoughts into something else. Understand the fact that sounds, sights or smells can easily help your mindset get diverted. Listen to some music, smell some flowers, eat some good food or go for a walk or spend time in Nature. When you are feeling down, try to distract yourself from what makes you feel down. It includes things like calling your friend, cleaning your room or cooking a meal. 

B) Nurture your intention of Mind control: Your life absolutely mirrors your intentions. And you have to nurture your intention that you are always under mind control. The moment when you feel that your mind is wavering with thoughts. Redirect those thoughts into your strong intention to be changed. Always redirect your negative thoughts into your intention that you practice mind control

C) Follow Detachment: In life it's pretty difficult to practice detachment. But it can definitely be practiced through the regular meditation or lucid dreaming in this regard. What you have to do is put yourself in a meditative mode for 10 to 15 minutes with the inner visualization that you have already started practicing mind control. When you regularize  your meditation, you easily achieve the muscle memory about the necessary actions you have to take to practice mind control whenever you feel you need to control your mind. Moving on, you will be able to practice detachment. It's the mental state where you are more focused on yourself rather than on the circumstances around, knowing the fact that circumstances can easily be changed and you are the meaning of your life. In other words, you get to follow some detachment and will stay more focused on your present. When you are more concentrated on the present, you literally make your past and future much better.

D) Avoid Self Catastrophizing:  Self Catastrophizing is nothing but the distorted self analysis you make with heavily filtered consciousness from the brain. This weird mental phenomenon happens to everyone in day today life unless reprogramed otherwise. Self Catastrophizing is nothing but your tendency to exaggerate your problems, slight mistakes or failures. There are incidents where students even committed suicide for having got poor results in their exams. Understand the fact that mistakes and failures are the stepping stones for success as they tell you that you do have chance again to improve yourself or try to do something else through which you can be more successful
